Laurent Blanc’s Paris Saint-Germain assistant is backing former Italy midfielder Thiago Motta to emulate Diego Simeone as a Coach.
Jean-Louis Gasset worked with Motta between 2013 and 2016, before he became a Coach in his own right, taking over Saint-Etienne last year.
The 36-year-old, meanwhile, retired from football at the end of last season and has since been handed the reins of PSG’s Under-19 team.
“With Thiago Silva and Thiago Motta, tactics were discussed without stopping,” Gasset told Le Parisien.

“The enrichment was extraordinary. Motta was a light for me. He enlightened me on tactical aspects, as well as explaining to me how Guardiola and Ancelotti used to work.
“At the same time he was constantly asking me how to face this or that opponent while I was preparing the video analysis.
“These exchanges with great players are worth all my years of experience. It makes me wonder how I could coach without that knowledge.
“Motta will be another Diego Simeone, a very good Coach. Verratti? He’s a gem. I got to know him when he was very young. He was gifted.
“However, injuries have been a drag on his career. He’s still young and I hope he’ll find the balance to become the player he should be.”
