Pietro Pellegri has warned Ligue 1 defences that ‘I’ll explode this season’ after scoring his first goal for Monaco.
Pellegri became the second-youngest player in Monaco’s history to score a goal, with only World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe bettering the striker, as he found the net during the principality side’s 2-1 defeat to Bordeaux on Sunday.
“Mbappe and I play in different positions,” the 17-year-old told RMC Info.
“He plays out wide, I play through the middle. We’re young, but winning a World Cup at his age is something huge.
“For me, Mbappe’s an example to follow. I hope it’s my year, I’ve worked hard to get back into shape and show my qualities, and I hope to explode. In fact, I’ll explode this season.
“I want to do things right and show the world who I am.”
Pellegri then gave an insight into working under Leonardo Jardim, seven months into his 21m transfer from Genoa.
“Jardim has a lot of experience and has been coaching in the Champions League for seven years,” added the Italy starlet.
“He reached the semi-finals and won the League title. There’s nothing else to add, just that I compliment him and listen to his advice.”
