Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a wrongly submitted doping test.

The Dutchman was drug tested after the Verona game on February 19, but had to provide two samples to reach the required amount.

While both of the samples came back clean, De Vrij only put his name to one of them, meaning the paperwork was filed incorrectly.

The centre-back was called to Nado Italia to explain what happened, and Premium Sport today reports that the case has been closed.

The only reason it took so long to dismiss the case is that there were traces of a corticosteroid in the samples, but De Vrij had a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

It had to be established that both samples were indeed his, and the reasons for the misfiling, before the case could be closed.
