The new Italy Coach will be “a selector of players, so that restricts” the options for the job, said FIGC Commissioner Roberto Fabbricini.
The Nazionale will be run by Under-21 boss Gigi Di Biagio until a new appointment is made, probably in June.
“Clearly the next CT of the Nazionale must have particular characteristics,” said Fabbricini.

“Clearly the next CT of the Nazionale must have particular characteristics,” said Fabbricini.
“The CT is not so much as a Coach as a selector of players, so that restricts some of the options available to us. We have not had contact with anyone yet, not even with Roberto Mancini, who was in Rome over the last few days (for a Zenit training camp).
“There is nothing new to report. Alessandro Costacurta is taking care of the matter of a new CT and clearly we consult each other.
“The biggest difficulty we have is contacting people who are already under contract. We can’t cause diplomatic incidents, even if unfortunately there have already been a couple. We’ll try to be very careful and delicate.
“We won’t stop at the usual names that have been in the papers, as we’ll look at other solutions too. We must find a person who can take into a count a series of things: timing, players, rapport with clubs and the fixture list.
“It must be a person who knows how to adapt and lead our Nazionale, which really needs to resuscitate enthusiasm.”
