Manchester United are ready to fight Real Madrid for Inter hitman Mauro Icardi next season, according to reports in Argentina.

There have already been numerous rumours of Real Madrid interest in Maurito, as they see him as the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema.

However, Argentine newspaper Olé adds that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have set their sights on the centre-forward.

He turns 25 later this month and yet is a veteran, scoring 96 goals with 23 assists in 170 competitive games for Inter.

His Serie A record is remarkable, finding the net 99 times with 26 assists in 178 matches.

So far this season, Icardi has scored 18 goals in just 22 Serie A appearances.

There is a release clause in Icardi’s contract, believed to be €110m, but it is only valid for a brief summer window.
