Giovanni Martusciello admits Empoli were taught a lesson by Crotone in their 4-1 defeat to the Pitagorici.
A hat-trick by Diego Falcinelli, in addition to Adrian Stoian's strike, gave the hosts a deserved and vital win, meaning the Azzurri are now just eight points clear of the relegation places.
"In relative terms, Falcinelli made the difference," Martusciello said during a post-match interview. "But I think it was the general performance of my team that was inferior to that of Crotone.
