The striker made it into the squad for Euro 2016 in spite of two difficult seasons, and he hopes to gain prominence and repeat himself in the journey towards the 2018 World Cup.

“I'm in my prime,” said Immobile in his official presentation with Lazio. “I'm happy about my choice, I met my teammates and we're a good group.

“Now [Italy Coach Giampiero] Ventura can watch me from closer up. I'll have to give it my all.

“A specific number of goals can never be promised, but I'll always give everything I've got on the pitch.”

Immobile was then asked whether he could repeat the season he had with Torino, when he won the top scorer award in 2014.

“With Torino it was a year in which everything went my way. The team helped the strikers and it was easier for us to score.

“I already spoke with [Federico] Marchetti, [Marco] Parolo, and [Danilo] Cataldi. Without help from the collective, without movement from the entire team, a striker can do very little.

“I saw Coach [Simone] Inzaghi with the youth team and the senior squad. I noticed that he likes to play with the ball on the ground, deploying the 4-3-3. I know those dynamics perfectly and I hope I can show my skills.”

Finally, the Italian international was asked which Lazio striker he'd compare himself to.

“I remember of [Beppe] Signori, and I saw many goals by [Bruno] Giordano. They were strikers who always kept the ball on the ground. Giordano never failed in front of the goal.

“But it's far too early to compare myself with strikers who played for Lazio. Let's wait another two-three years.

“Lazio as a starting point? I'd say this club is more of a point of arrival. It must become a club that aims to go as far up as possible and qualify for the Champions League. It's important to show yourself on the international stage too.”
