Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Napoli’s strong relationship with Klaassen’s agent Soren Lerby, who also represents Dries Mertens, could help the transfer go ahead.

Vesuviani President Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to be very keen on bringing in the 23-year-old, but doesn’t want to offer more than €15m.

Lerby could be crucial in bridging the €10m gap between the two clubs’ valuation of the Dutch international and he should soon arrive in Italy before taking Napoli’s final offer to Amsterdam.

The agreement could be struck around the halfway mark of €20m, which the Azzurri could reach by inserting some bonuses into their bid.

Central midfielder Klaassen scored 13 goals and provided eight assists from midfield for Ajax in the Eredivisie this season.
