Marco Giampaolo saw a “highly motivated” Empoli in their historic Tuscan Derby victory over Fiorentina.
They hadn’t won this fixture since 1986, without a victory over their local rivals in all competition since 1997.
“There is great satisfaction for this victory, which allowed us to get closer to Serie A safety,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“There is great satisfaction for this victory, which allowed us to get closer to Serie A safety,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“A victory in the derby is always an exciting occasion, especially when facing a technically gifted team like Fiorentina. We managed to soak up the pressure well.”
It was also Empoli’s first win since January 10, ending a 12-round drought.
“We had many problems in the second half of the season, including a dip in concentration levels and distraction from the transfer gossip, but today we were highly motivated.”
