Mauro Icardi joked about Premier League interest, similarity to Mario Balotelli, his row with Inter fans and refusal to celebrate.

The striker spoke to new Canale 5 show Grand Hotel Chiambretti and was asked about plans for the future amid contract renewal talks.

“Will I stay with the Nerazzurri? I signed a five-year contract and there are still three to go, so I think I’m going to have to stay here. In any case, my agent takes care of these things,” replied Icardi.

“Why don’t I earn very much? I don’t know, you’d have to ask my agent. Maybe I’m just not very bright!”

The Argentine was told he would get a lot more money if he joined a Premier League club.

“Yes, but before paying me they’d have to pay Inter.”

There has been tension recently between Icardi and the fans, most notably after the 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo when he and Fredy Guarin threw their jerseys into the crowd only to see them thrown back again.

He then refused to celebrate either of his two goals in the victory over Palermo.

“I’ve already forgotten that incident. We all spoke to the Curva and understood this was a difficult moment.

“In all honesty, I got angry because I’d thrown my shorts to a little boy and the others threw them back again. That wasn’t his decision.

“We clarified everything with the fans and it ended there. I repeat my refusal to celebrate had nothing to do with poor results, but was just about the incident with the little boy that got me angry.”

Anger is commonplace in the Inter locker room this season, such as when Dani Osvaldo tried to attack Icardi during a 1-1 draw at Juventus.

That situation eventually prompted Osvaldo’s move to Boca Juniors.

“To be honest, I didn’t go straight into the locker room after the row. I stayed behind and spoke to the reporters, so I don’t know what happened before I got there. We saw each other the next day and there was some tension.”

Icardi was asked whether there were any similarities between him and ex-Inter firebrand Balotelli.

“To be honest, I don’t really know him, so I can’t say if we are similar or not. Everyone says he’s a bit mad!”
