Diego Simeone left the door open for Alessio Cerci to leave Atletico Madrid in January.
The Coach spoke to Sport Mediaset after a 4-0 victory over Olympiacos, which secured their qualification for the next round of the Champions League.
“It’s true that after our initial defeat in Greece we had to work hard to get ourselves into this opportunity and the team realised that,” said Simeone.
“We played with great intensity, hit them where it would hurt and defended to prevent their counter-attacks.”
Cerci remained on the bench and Simeone was asked what the ex-Torino winger had to do in order to get into the team.
“It is not easy. We have so many internationals in the squad. I am the Coach and at the moment unfortunately I am not giving Alessio the time he deserves, but I have to look at what is best for the team.
“Could Cerci leave in January? You’d have to ask the sporting directors, as they are the ones who work in this area.”
