Atletico Madrid’s President denies summer interest in Jose Callejon and believes Alessio Cerci and Mario Suarez won’t leave in January.

Los Colchoneros were speculated as interested in Callejon this summer and even rumoured to have had a €22m offer turned down.

However, their President has dismissed this as speculation, in talking to Radio Crc today.

“I like a lot of players who play in Italy. Callejon is a good player, but he is very comfortable in Naples,” Enrique Cerezo has considerend.

“It is not true that I asked De Laurentiis for him because he has a contract with an Italian team, I would not have been able to bring him to Madrid and Jose is also happy with Napoli.

“With De Laurentiis the rapport is very good.”

Cerezo was also asked about increasing speculation that the likes of Napoli and Inter were interested in picking up Alessio Cerci this mid-season.

“Cerci is a very good player, but the Coach decides who to send out on to the pitch.

“I have heard the statements of the player and it is obvious that if he does not play then he is not happy.

“But the season is long and there are still 32 games to play. Will he be sold in the winter market? Let’s wait until December, but I do not think so.”

Mario Suarez has again been paired with a possible move out to Napoli in recent days.

“There is no problem with the player, who is happy to be with us. Atletico Madrid is his club for life.

“Suarez is very strong, intelligent and important for Atletico Madrid.

“If you ask me if he is to be sold? I will respond in the same way – wait until December.”
