Whilst Milan dropped points in their last two games, Alex believes that they can still be ambitious for the remainder of the season.
The Rossoneri followed up a weekend 1-1 draw with Fiorentina with the same result away to Cagliari on Wednesday evening.
However, their Brazilian centre-back says ambition remains intact, having just taken third spot from Sampdoria.
“It was no easy game for us and Cagliari had an extra day of rest,” Alex explained today to Milan Channel.
“It can prove to be an important point for us but now we must prepare the game against Palermo [on Sunday] well because we want to win.
“They are a strong side, so we’ll have to be careful from the first minute and we’ll have to play with strength because it is very important for us to win.
“We have dropped four points against Fiorentina and Cagliari, but we still sit six points adrift of Juventus and Roma. I think that we can still improve and fight for the top positions in the League.”
The 32-year-old, who commented earlier this week to French media that he would have stayed at Paris Saint-Germain had he been given the option, reflected on his acclimatisation to Italy.
“I really like Milan, and my wife and my family think the same. We really like it here and we often go out for dinner. Milan is a really beautiful city.”
