Walter Mazzarri confirms Mateo Kovacic is out against Real Madrid and it’s “a test” for players who could leave Inter.
The Nerazzurri take on Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the Guinness International Champions Cup tomorrow night in Berkeley, California.
“Mateo was fine yesterday, but now he has a calf problem. I wanted him to play at least a half, but it’s best not to risk him,” Coach Mazzarri told Inter Channel.
“The majority of the squad can play a little more than 45 minutes, but we’ll see how things go. The slow trickle of players joining in is not making it easier on tactical or physical terms.
“For example, Nemanja Vidic was unaccustomed to this level of strain in his training and will have one half in his legs, maybe a little more.
“I expect to see a side that starts to play as a ‘team.’ That suffers under pressure when it needs to, but can also try to put the strongest club in Europe under pressure too.
“The Guinness Cup will also be a test for someone who is here today and will be evaluated with regards to their future.
“At this phase of pre-season we must evaluate the performance regardless of the result, even if psychologically it’s important we give our all against everyone. It is important to construct a winning mentality.”
