Pippo Inzaghi reveals the advice he got from Antonio Conte, learning from Carlo Ancelotti and why having ex-teammates is “an advantage.”
The new Milan boss takes on his first major job after two years in the Rossoneri youth academy.
“Conte called me and said the only thing that changes from being a player to a Coach is you don’t sleep at night anymore!
“I am very self-critical, so I always put myself up for the challenge and want to improve. My experiences with the Allievi and Primavera youth teams fortified me.
“I look to the Coaches I worked with, and there have been many. Ancelotti is the emblem, as he is loved and respected by his players. That is my intention, even if I am Filippo Inzaghi and not Ancelotti.
“I will always forgive a technical error, but will never forgive the wrong attitude. A Milan player cannot get it wrong off the field.”
Some saw this as a comment about Mario Balotelli, but Inzaghi was impressed with the striker.
“He is a treasure for Italian football and for Milan. I heard him eager to get going and I’ll do everything to ensure he can make the difference in this team.”
Clarence Seedorf found numerous problems in the locker room, where some players struggled to accept his sudden change from teammate to tactician, so how will Inzaghi avoid the same fate?
“For me working with former teammates can only be an advantage, I just want respect for my role. I want to bring the fans back to San Siro and I promise them that anyone who doesn’t fight for the club will not be a part of my Milan.”
“Last season in Spain nobody thought Atletico Madrid could beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to the Liga title.
“I didn’t call Diego Simeone, but I watched Atletico and its organisation. I will try to bring my own methods. I like 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.
“Milan finished in eighth place, so obviously we need to change something in this team. I am relaxed, as I know the ambitions of the owners. They want to get back to winning ways.
“I told the lads I want an attacking and positive Milan, hopefully with entertaining football too. We must try to take control of the game.”
