The Italian tactician guided his team through to the showpiece event after they beat defending champions Bayern Munich 5-0 on aggregate.

Their cross-city rivals joined them last night following their own impressive win over Chelsea.

Ancelotti now has the chance to win the trophy for the third time in his career but says neither side will start the match in Lisbon as favourites.

“Atletico were the better team and deserved to reach the final,” he said to Sky. “At this moment, everyone in Madrid is happy at the thought of the match between Real and Atletico.

“Are we favourites? In a final there is never a favourite. Atletico have done well since the start of the season and that is continuing.

“It will be a very even final, without any real favourites.”
