The agent of Georgian forward Giorgi Chanturia has revealed that his client turned down several Italian sides in January.

The 20-year-old moved from Dutch side Vitesse this year to CFR Cluj of Romania. And his representative has admitted that the goalscorer was in talks with a number of Serie A clubs.

“We signed up for four years with Cluj,” agent Cavallieri told Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

“They are a club with European ambitions and I’m convinced that it’s the right decision.

“Verona’s sporting director Sean Sogliano followed him during the Under-21 championships as was very impressed.

“Bologna, Parma and Genoa were also very impressed and requested some information. They were calling him ‘The Georgian Messi’ but I think he’s more like Ronaldo.”
