Alberto Gilardino has affirmed his commitment to Genoa and his ambition to make Cesare Prandelli’s squad for Brazil 2014.

The 31-year-old forward has once more spent a transfer window being linked with an exit from Marassi, with the likes of West Ham and former side Bologna paired with interest.

However, for the forward, focus is only on the Grifone, as he prepares to face former employers Fiorentina in Week 21.

However, for the forward, focus is only on the Grifone, as he prepares to face former employers Fiorentina in Week 21.

“Whilst the Coach and the President have always know this, I work at my maximum to give everything for the shirt of Genoa,” Gilardino has told SportMediaset this week.

“[Last weekend] we beat Inter and the next few weeks could change our season. Our goal, however, remains League survival.

“Against Fiorentina [this weekend] it will not be easy, because the Viola are among those teams that play the best football.”

The Italy international was asked of his hopes of making the 23-man cut to go to the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

“For me it would be a third World Cup and if I were to go to Brazil then it would crown my career in an extraordinary way.

“From now until May, it will depend on what I can do with Genoa, for my performances and goals.

“Of course it also depends on Coach Prandelli, who can choose from many quality players.

“Why should he summon me? Maybe because I have features that are a little different from the other attacking players.

“Either way, I believe Italy will do very well at the World Cup – we have great players.

“Personal goals? In Serie A I hope to reach the 200-mark in goals and surpass that, as Francesco Totti did.”
