The Italian international has yet to play this season after returning from the European Under-21 Championship in the summer with a recurring knee problem.

“Everything is progressing as hoped,” representative Renzo Contratto told Roma News. “I think in about two weeks at the latest, he’ll be back and working with the rest of the squad.

“Now he just has to complete the final part of his rehabilitation with calmness. Then he’ll have to find the right match fitness.

“It will be up to the Coach to decide when he plays, but Mattia is mentally fired up and at the centre of the Roma project. He intends to stay.”

The 22-year-old joined Roma at the start of last season after impressing with Siena. He grabbed 11 goals in 26 games for the Giallorossi in 2012-13.
