Sassuolo are promoted to Serie A for the first time in their 91-year history and Coach Eusebio Di Francesco has pledged to remain.
The tiny club don’t even have a home stadium, so play their games at the Stadio Braglia in Modena, while only eight years ago they were in Serie C2.
However, they won the Serie B title this afternoon when beating Livorno 1-0 at the 95th minute, despite being down to nine men.
“I think if they had written this as a film script, then they could not have thought of a better thriller,” smiled the former Roma and Piacenza man.
“We suffered, but that’s because we pushed this season to the very end by wasting some opportunities. I have some lads in this team who are more than extraordinary.
“The future? I already have an agreement with Sassuolo to stay here next season, 100 per cent.”
When asked who he would dedicate this victory to, Di Francesco fought back tears.
“I think of Riccardo, my nephew who died at the age of 24. I will always have him in my heart.”
Sassuolo are promoted automatically along with Hellas Verona, while Livorno, Empoli, Novara and Brescia go into the play-offs for the last promotion spot.
