Italy will wear black armbands in tonight’s international friendly against Brazil in memory of Pietro Mennea.

The former Italian athlete, who won a gold medal in the 200m at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, has died at the age of 60 after losing a battle against illness.

Mennea held the 200m world record for 17 years after recording a time of 19.72 seconds.

There will also be a minute’s silence before the friendly which will be played in Geneva, Switzerland.
