Bulgaria Coach Luboslav Penev believes “we were the better side and deserved the win” against Italy in their World Cup qualifier.
The nations drew 2-2 in Sofia on Friday evening to open Group B, as a Pablo Daniel Osvaldo brace wiped out Stanislav Manolev and Georgi Milanov goals.
“I can only be proud of our performance, but I am not satisfied with the result,” said Penev.
“I think we were the better side and deserved the win. Italy scored two rather lucky goals, especially the second one. We created so many chances against an excellent team like Italy, who reached the Euro 2012 final just two months ago. We are still missing that killer instinct in the penalty area.”
Armenia are top of Group B after their 1-0 win away to Malta, as Denmark and the Czech Republic drew 0-0 on Saturday.
