Sky Sport 24 indicate that the 43-year-old tactician, who has been out of work since leaving Fiorentina in early November, has now signed a deal to take over his home nation.
The Beli Orlovi have been without a full-time Coach since Vladimir Petrovic resigned late last year and their Football Association's President had announced last week that Miha was close to agreeing terms on a contract.
Mihajlovic spent 14 years playing in Serie A, before spells as assistant Coach at Inter and Coach at Bologna and Catania, before Fiorentina.
Recently linked with a surprise return to the Florentine outfit and then with taking over at Palermo in the summer, the Coach is now tasked with leading the Serbians through qualification for a place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
