Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni is sceptical about Italy’s chances of Euro 2012 glory. “There are four better teams.”

Cesare Prandelli has rejuvenated the Azzurri after World Cup 2010 humiliation, but Trap doesn’t think they’ll be one of the favourites to win the European Championship.

“Italy are a good side and I know that us Italians always pull something out at these tournaments,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“However, I think that Spain, Germany, Holland and England are a level higher than Italy.”

Trap has led the Republic of Ireland to the Finals and they will face Spain, Italy and Croatia during the group stages.

“Our chances? You should never say never,” he continued. “Nobody is asking us to win the competition and this can be an advantage, but I’m not expecting a ‘well done’ if we lose all our games.

“We’ll look to surprise everyone in a difficult group, even if Spain and Italy are two battleships.”
