Walter Mazzarri admits Napoli “did not deserve to win” due to refereeing errors in Parma, but feels Chelsea sacking Andre Villas-Boas is not good news.
The Coach was sent off for wandering out of his technical area during today’s 2-1 victory at the Stadio Tardini.
“I never protested, but seeing as the fourth official was marking me, he got me sent off the moment I left my area,” said Mazzarri.
“This win was a compensation for when we lost to Parma earlier this season without deserving it. This time it was Parma who played well and a draw would’ve been the right result. We did not deserve to win, but got the points anyway.
“I didn’t like the performance, as weren’t sharp, but that’s only to be expected with so many games in quick succession.”
Parma are so angry at the refereeing decisions, including a debatable penalty and the fact Ezequiel Lavezzi was offside when scoring the winner, that they called a media silence.
“It’s true that Parma deserved more, but today the incidents went in our favour. They made it impossible for us to play and overall they did better. Plus I had to make two substitutions in the first half, so couldn’t introduce fresh legs when we needed them.”
Napoli won the first leg of their Champions League tie 3-1 and face Chelsea for the second leg at Stamford Bridge on March 14, but today the club fired Villas-Boas. Roberto Di Matteo has taken over as caretaker manager.
“As a colleague, I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t know if this can be an advantage in Champions League terms, as at least we knew how Villas-Boas played. Now we’ll see.”
