Playing for the Italian national side is high on the wish-list of Atalanta’s Argentine-born Ezequiel Schelotto.

The 22-year-old has been mentioned as a possible newcomer to Cesare Prandelli’s Giro Azzurro after a fine season with the Bergamo club so far.

“I had the pleasure of playing for the Italian Under-21 side and I hope that I can soon have the satisfaction and honour of wearing the shirt of the full team,” he told Rai Due.

“I work every day to make sure that I am ready in case the call does come. For now, I’m just thinking of Atalanta and doing well.”

The South American midfielder, likened by many to former Italy and Juve winger Mauro Camoranesi, has been an important figure for the Nerazzurri.

They have been a revelation after starting the season with a six-point penalty, but they’ve began the New Year poorly.

“We knew that 2012 would be tough as we were up against the top sides,” he said after defeats to Milan and Lazio.

“It’s not easy for anyone to play against teams who are fighting for the Scudetto. Now we’ll do all that we can to get something from the game against Juventus.”
