Genoa boss Alberto Malesani has defended his side from criticism after their 1-0 win over Novara. “We’re not Real Madrid!”
The Rossoblu collected a victory on Sunday, but they didn’t impress some onlookers and President Enrico Preziosi left his seat in the stands before half-time.
“A below par first half? Really? We created five great scoring opportunities,” the tactician told Tuttosport.
“If we sometimes struggle it is because we are actually playing against a good team and because we are not Real Madrid.
“I don’t understand all of this…”
Genoa had to dig deep after being reduced to 10 men in the opening 45 minutes following the dismissal of Luca Antonelli.
“Our victory, with 10 men, was one of character,” Malesani continued. “Fortune also smiled on us.
“I think I have sporting honesty in me and if we play poorly then I will say so. But to be criticised after a victory like this…
“The January transfer market? Our squad continues to grow and we’ll only need a very small adjustment.”
Genoa are joint seventh in the table, with Napoli, thanks to their 15 points from 10 games.
