Javier Zanetti “rushed back” early from his summer vacation to help Inter in the Italian Super Cup.
The captain was on extended leave along with the others who took part in the Copa America last month.
However, both Zanetti and Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar were recalled after injuries to Yuto Nagatomo and Emiliano Viviano.
“Here I am,” smiled the Argentine veteran on Inter Channel as the team arrived in Beijing for Saturday’s clash with Milan.
“As soon as I got the call, I rushed back. We already had our first training session and it went well, as I immediately felt in good shape.
“I hope to be ready straight away and at my best, as should be my teammates, for this very important Final.”
Zanetti revealed the possibility of a short summer holiday was always on the cards.
“As soon as we were eliminated from the Copa America, we talked to Coach Gian Piero Gasperini and gave the all-clear should we be needed for Inter.
“He simply said it was better for us to rest after that tournament and face the intense season ahead without risks. We agreed.
“Obviously, when our return became necessary, the plans can change and we had no problem with that.”
The captain also noted he was still keeping a close eye on the new team and tactician from afar.
“I tried to watch all the friendlies I could on television, obviously.”
