Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini insists that part of the reason why he sacked Delio Rossi was a perceived lack of improvement.

Rossi found out that his time was up in Sicily yesterday afternoon following Sunday's humiliating 7-0 defeat to Udinese at the Renzo Barbera.

Speaking to Radio Radio, Zamparini said: "The project is over because we didn't square the circle with Rossi. We remained the same team as last year with some additions.

"We don't have the same budget as Milan and Juventus. We lose €10m a year. I try to sell one or two players to balance the accounts while looking to put together an adequate squad.

"We have many good young players, and I thought that Rossi would improve going forward.

"I would never have renewed Rossi's contract at the end of the season. Anyway, I have never argued with Rossi. After the defeat to Fiorentina I took him to my house and we analysed the game.

"I made him watch the mistakes on a corner kick. I am not a Coach. I only wanted to make him take note of his mistakes.

"In Italian football there is the idea that a President should only put money in but with me this is not possible.

"We hope that Cosmi manages to sort things out and can resolve the performances of some players like Abel Hernandez and Javier Pastore who against Udinese seemed like players from Serie B."
