Catania transfer chief Pietro Lo Monaco says he couldn't come in between Giuseppe Mascara and his dream of playing for Napoli.

The fantasista joined the Azzurri from the Sicilian outfit on transfer deadline day last month for €1.2m.

"We made the player happy," Lo Monaco noted. "Napoli were always his dream and he wanted it to come true.

"I felt that it was only right, at this stage of his career, to gift him such a satisfaction."

Mascara will face his former employers next weekend when Napoli entertain Catania at the San Paolo.

"Napoli, along with Udinese, are the worst possible opponents for us right now as they are the most in-form teams around," added Lo Monaco.

"I said a few months back that Napoli, despite not having a squad to win the Scudetto, are in a position to fight for it given the situation they have found themselves in."
