Inter hope to negotiate it down with the aid of the player putting pressure on his club.
Another option would be to bypass Financial Fair Play restrictions by getting Jiangsu Suning to buy Joao Mario and then loan him to Inter.
Both clubs are now owned by the powerful Chinese Suning Commerce Group.
