Milan are rumoured to be considering a new, as of yet unknown Coach, after Cristian Brocchi said his final goodbyes.
The current Coach had already started his preparatory work for the coming season, but he sensed little trust coming from the higher echelons of the club and he decided to quit.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he called his bosses at Milan yesterday and informed them he was giving up on the job.
President Silvio Berlusconi is believed to be the only person still hoping for Brocchi to remain as the Diavolo's Coach, and he asked his subordinate to give him another 48 hours.
Berlusconi is currently in talks with a Chinese conglomerate to finalise the sale of the club. Any changes or developments on that front will inevitably have repercussions on the selection of the Coach. This means that Brocchi could still end up keeping his place, although the possibilities are remote.
The primary candidates for the Rossoneri's bench are currently Marco Giampaolo and Frank de Boer, but the Gazzetta reports of a new name entering the fray.
Previous rumours had touted Vincenzo Montella for the job, but the newspaper insists that the new man's name is still a secret.
Little is known about the identity of 'Mister X', except that he is meant to conciliate the desires of Berlusconi and Galliani with those of the new Chinese owners.
Veteran Marcello Lippi has apparently already been ruled out for the position, whilst the previous contacts with Unai Emery, Manuel Pellegrini and Andre Villas Boas suggest that none of them could be the mystery man.
The naming of a new Coach is a very pressing matter for the Milanese club and a resolution is expected this week.
