Roma may reluctantly accept to sacrifice central defender Antonio Rudiger, selling him to Chelsea to keep Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic.

The Giallorossi are expected to sell at least one big player this season, and many believe the star on his way out will be taken from the midfield.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, sporting director Walter Sabatini may have found a different solution. Rudiger, who is on loan from Stuttgart, could be signed permanently by making use of the €9m buy-out clause. He could then be turned over to Chelsea, who are believed to be willing to pay Roma €20m, whilst offering the 23-year-old a four-season contract with a €3m salary.

While the German international impressed this season and few would be happy to see him go, he's still considered a preferable loss to Pjanic and Nainggolan, who are also sought after by a variety of European clubs.

The player himself won't respond to questions about his future, as he is thinking of stealing second-place from Napoli in the final days of Serie A.

“It's wonderful to be loved by the fans, it's the best feeling ever,” Rudiger told Sky Sports Italia. “[Antonio] Conte? I don't know him in person, I just know he won three Scudetti with Juventus. No more.

“Right now Napoli are only two points from us and we have three games, we have to do our best and hope they drop some points.

“We both have some difficult games ahead, Atalanta and Torino won't be a walk for them, while we must stay focused without looking at what others do. The future doesn't matter now.”
