The German international hasn’t played since damaging knee ligaments in mid-September, has yet to return to full training.

With Giuseppe Rossi facing a few months out with his own knee injury, speculation is that La Viola are assessing Gomez’s condition before making a decision on action in the transfer window.

However, the Corriere dello Sport suggest the 28-year-old can give Fiorentina hope, with it expected that by the end of this week he can return to training with his teammates.

It is seen that the striker would then be in contention for an appearance from the bench by Week 20’s trip to Catania, and that come the following weekend, he may be ready to make the starting line-up, at home to Genoa on January 26.
