The Champions League game between Galatasaray and Juventus has been abandoned due to snow in Istanbul.

Referee Pedro Proenca halted play after 27 minutes when snow and hail became so heavy that the lines on the pitch were no longer visible, then the players left the field on 32 minutes.

The two squads went back into the locker room as ground staff came out to clear the crucial areas with brooms and re-paint the lines.

However, the referee and UEFA delegates tested the pitch again and ruled it was “impossible” to continue.

The scoreline was still 0-0 when play was abandoned.

The game could be replayed tomorrow, but only if the referee rules he suspended play before 30 minutes, as otherwise it would have to be played next week.

The most likely scenario is that play will resume from the 27th minute on Wednesday at 17.30 GMT.
