Marcelo Bielsa is now up for the Roma bench after Athletic Bilbao announced he would be leaving.
Today Giallorossi director of sport Walter Sabatini confirmed the next Coach “will be foreign,” so Bielsa does fit the bill.
This evening Athletic Bilbao President Josu Urrutia announced “the board unanimously decided Marcelo Bielsa will not continue.”
His contract has expired and he is therefore a free agent able to negotiate directly with Roma.
Argentine manager Bielsa joins the list of candidates for the Olimpico job, which includes Laurent Blanc, Lille Coach Rudi Garcia and Newell’s Old Boys boss Tata Martinez.
In recent weeks Bielsa had already been linked with the benches at Inter and Napoli.
However, there are reports in Spain that he wants to take a break from management until at least January.
