According to La Repubblica, Inter players and staff all listened to Steven Zhang’s appeal, but decided not to give up two months of their salary to help the club.

The owners had hoped that everyone would come together during the euphoria of the Scudetto victory and accept a pay cut for the 2021-22 season.

This would mean giving up two months’ worth of their wages, although director Beppe Marotta was at great pains to insist this was purely a voluntary exercise and by no means an order.

This afternoon, La Repubblica reported there was no agreement and none of the players or staff decided to accept the cut.

It seems as if the lesser option, delaying two months of their wages so they show up on the 2022-23 balance sheet, is not going to be accepted either.

Owners Suning have asked for help from their players, directors and coaching staff to keep the club afloat during the pandemic, when revenues have been hit hard.

If this appeal does not work, then it’s likely those players who earn the highest wages will be first on the transfer list.
