There was a great deal of confusion when Fonseca held his usual press conference this afternoon, but was then not on the team bus that arrived at the Fiumicino Airport a few hours later.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the coach had tested positive for COVID-19.
However, news agency ANSA now suggest that it was new director Tiago Pinto who tested positive for the Coronavirus.
He flew in this morning to start his new job, having delayed it because he contracted COVID last month, and had tested negative in Portugal before being allowed to fly out to Italy.
Yet, the result of the swab he took in Rome came back positive.
Because Fonseca met with Tiago Pinto, he had to have another swab to be sure that it was negative.
According to the latest reports from ANSA and Sky Sport Italia, Fonseca has now been given the all-clear and will be on the Roma bench tomorrow afternoon against Crotone.
