Venezia’s participation had been thrown into doubt after one of their players had tested positive for coronavirus, forcing the squad into an isolated training retreat for two weeks.
The health protocol was modified this morning, so that the Arancioneroverdi could restart their Serie B campaign as planned, but the club maintains the change has come at too short notice.
“Venezia FC announce that, in light of the current situation, the minimum conditions to play the match scheduled for tomorrow night in Trieste against Pordenone are not in place,” read an official press release.
“Lega Serie B’s announcement relating to the ‘soft’ protocol was only received late this morning.
"As per the new memo sent out by the Ministry of Health, the club promptly contacted local health authorities in order to obtain the necessary authorisations to play tomorrow’s game.
“They informed the club of the need for the team group to be tested, provided for by the new protocol, allowing the team group to move to Trieste only tomorrow after the swabs were taken.”
