Aurelio De Laurentiis has continued his criticism of Lorenzo Insigne, warning he should leave Napoli if he is unhappy and that he still needs to “grow up”.
De Laurentiis made it clear Insigne had to “change his attitude” only yesterday, and the Napoli President has now reiterated his stance on the forward.
“I can’t work him out, I don’t understand why he isn’t entirely happy in Naples,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He’s a great player, I’ll give him that, but if he thinks his adventure with Napoli has ended here then he should make that clear so he avoids being misunderstood.
“He’s someone who’s never had a good feeling with his Coaches and I never understood the reasons for that.
“I don’t know what his current problems are. I love him, but if he has any problems then only he can overcome them.
“I’ll protect him, but he must understand that the squad is made up of 25 players and everyone is needed.
“It would be better if he let us know what he’ll do when he grows up. If Ancelotti decides not to use him, he must stop coming up with jokes and attitudes of challenge.”
The 28-year-old and his agent Mino Raiola recently met Coach Carlo Ancelotti to clear the air again…
“There was a first meeting on May 1, after which Lorenzo’s performance levels had deteriorated.
“I think Mino came to see what was going on. Him being in the stands at Genk, however, was punishment from Ceferin.”
Aleksander Ceferin, the UEFA chief?
“He should explain why there must be only 18 players in a matchday squad. Enlarging the bench would avoid mortifying the others who are called up.”
