Lorenzo Insigne vented his frustration after scoring in Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Sassuolo. “I always get criticised and it does hurt.”
The captain got the equaliser at the Mapei Stadium after Domenico Berardi’s opener, but initially refused to speak to the media.
“Considering how it was going, a draw is a decent result, but we weren’t determined enough, any of us,” Insigne eventually told Sky Sport Italia.

“Considering how it was going, a draw is a decent result, but we weren’t determined enough, any of us,” Insigne eventually told Sky Sport Italia.
“I was just a little annoyed at the result at the final whistle, because I always want to win. We did well to react and get a draw out of it, then tried to push for the victory.”
Insigne was asked if he was also upset at the criticism that followed his missed penalty in last week’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus.
“I always get criticised. I don’t want to stir up controversy, but I am the only one who always gets targeted when I don’t score or don’t perform up to my usual standards.
“It does hurt, but I am working to improve and hope to get stronger.”
The last two results mean Napoli are now 18 points adrift of leaders Juventus, but only seven clear of third-placed Milan.
“We are having our campaign, the way we always do. If we look at what the pundits were saying before the season began, they thought we were doomed, but instead we are in second place only behind Juve.”
Napoli’s focus is now on the Europa League and they won the first leg 3-0 with RB Salzburg.
“We’re not qualified for the quarter-final yet, as they caused us a lot of problems in the last 10 minutes at the San Paolo. We have faith in our squad and it’s important to go out there with the right determination.”
