Keita Balde Diao’s agent Roberto Calenda hit back at Lazio after the Monaco transfer was completed. “So many lies were told.”
The deal was done this evening, reportedly for €30m plus another €5m in bonuses.
“AS Monaco was our choice, the best choice,” wrote Calenda on Twitter.
“A team that already last year had tried to sign Keita and this season, once again, proved how much respect they have for the player. An important club, one that is in the Champions League and makes the most of young talents.
“We want to thank AS Monaco and the directors for how they always acted with us, with professionalism and clarity.
“The positive conclusion of all this affair proves that once reason and dialogue prevails, you always reach a satisfying result for all concerned.
“The solution makes everyone happy and proves how many lies were told and written, more or less on purpose, over the last few months about Keita.
“According to some, we already had an agreement to leave as a free agent, according to others we refused all options except for one and for others still our objective was solely to hurt Lazio. None of that is true.
“The truth is we always asked for respect. And we found it at AS Monaco.”
Lazio had agreed terms with Milan, Napoli and West Ham United, but President Claudio Lotito declared that Keita had turned them down.
He was said to want Juventus, but the offer on the table was only €15m, as his contract was due to expire at the end of the season.
