The Rosanero President said the World Cup-winner “wasn’t right” for the Sicilian side in an interview yesterday, but insists he was misinterpreted.
“I said exemplary things, and to be clear I was pro-Gilardino,” Zamparini explained to il Giornale di Sicilia.
“If people want to distort my thinking because of my age I don’t care, but it’s wrong if they want to create some sort of controversy between me and Alberto.
“I spoke to him on the touchline in Rome, reiterating my esteem for him, and he reiterated his willingness to continue doing well here.
“It’s not him who isn’t right for Palermo, but the opposite! He might still want to be at teams with big goals. I hope there’s still room for him in the national team.
“Fortunately these are my last three months as Palermo President, even yesterday I met potential buyers.”
