Udinese fought back after a poor first half and were beaten in a 3-2 thriller by French club Bastia.

The Friulani played this international friendly on neutral turf in Lignano, but while Ligue 1 starts next week, Serie A doesn’t begin until August 22.

Coach Stefano Colantuono started the new pairing of Antonio Di Natale and Duvan Zapata together for the first time, but the opening 45 minutes were deeply disappointing.

Francois Kamano broke away from Edenilson and set up Brandao for a simple tap-in after just six minutes.

Francois Kamano broke away from Edenilson and set up Brandao for a simple tap-in after just six minutes.

Bastia then doubled their lead with an almost identical move, this time Kamano undisturbed pulling back from the by-line for Floyd Ayite.

Di Natale drilled just over the bar, but it was Bastia’s half and Kamano met Yannick Cahuzac’s pass from the right for 3-0.

Panagiotis Kone’s header whistled just wide and Udinese fought back after the restart. Guilherme’s free kick was just wide and Rodrigo Aguirre was a fraction too late to meet Emmanuel Badu’s assist.

Edenilson was much better once he moved over to the right flank, going close several times and creating chances for Aguirre.

Maurizio Domizzi’s header from a corner forced a fantastic save, as did Guilherme’s set play and Aguirre from point-blank range.

The Friulani finally made all that pressure count late on with two goals in quick succession. First Aguirre curled in a free kick from the edge of the box, then the Uruguayan striker got his head to an Edenilson cross.
