New Coach Massimo Rastelli says he is 'the right man' to lead Cagliari back into Serie A, but warns 'forecasts are difficult'.
The Rossoblú tumbled down into the lower division after falling only three points short of Atalanta this season, and are looking to start a new cycle with former Avellino Coach Rastelli.
“The first contacts took place on Monday evening with an informal chat,” said the new boss of the Sardinians in his introductory Press conference.

“The first contacts took place on Monday evening with an informal chat,” said the new boss of the Sardinians in his introductory Press conference.
“On Tuesday I took a train for Milan, where I met the President [Tommaso Giulini] and sporting director [Stefano Capozucca].
“At the end of meeting they decided I'd be the new Coach.
“They knew my circumstances well and we unblocked the situation after two days spent negotiating.
“The President believes that I'm the right man to bring Cagliari back into Serie A.”
The 46-year-old was also asked about the transfer market for his newly-demoted team.
“We'll discuss the squad, as we need players who are ambitious, but also skilled, because every team will come against us with a license to kill.
“Cagliari is an important club and I'll prove that opting for me was the right decision.
“Winning matches in Serie B is hard, never mind winning the championship.
“I don't feel like anyone's second choice, and I'm proud of my career so far.
“My targets? It's hard to make forecasts in Serie B, but the main rivals will be Catania and Cesena.”
There was some bitterness at Avellino after he departed from the team, but Rastelli brushed it off.
“The President of Avellino knew perfectly well that I was going to leave if a great opportunity showed up.
“And history speaks clearly: Cagliari are a Serie A team.
“Daniele Conti and Andrea Cossu? They are two icons, two great players. We'll discuss them again in the future.”
