Tonight’s Euro 2016 qualifier between Italy and Croatia will go ahead at San Siro after torrential rain stopped.

There were genuine fears the game would have to be called off, as the city streets as well as the pitch were flooded last night.

Both teams had to cancel planned training sessions at the stadium due to the weather.

However, this morning the sun is shining on Milan and reports from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza confirm the drainage system did its job.

There are expected to be over 63,000 fans at San Siro this evening for the match, which kicks off at 19.45 GMT.

However, there are still concerns over Tuesday’s friendly with Albania in Genoa.

Ironically, the game was organised to help raise funds for those affected by last month’s devastating floods.

This weekend the city was again under water and the Albania match at Marassi will depend on how the weather develops over the next 48 hours.

The floods and torrential rain have hit most of northern Italy, causing several deaths.
