Torino striker Fabio Quagliarella has revealed that he could have joined Napoli in the summer, and insists he never fell out with Antonio Conte.

Quagliarella left Napoli to join Juventus in 2010, remaining with the Bianconeri until this summer and when it came to leaving Turin, San Paolo was a preferred destination.

“I hoped for a return to Napoli,” Quagliarella has told Tiki Taka this week.

“I was told there was a possibility, and I told my agent to prioritise Napoli and Torino.

“I’ve always said I didn’t want to leave [Napoli], then everyone else had their say about my exit and now people are against me.

“My heart will always belong to Napoli, even if I get booed and whistled when I go there.

“Sometimes love affairs end for no reason.”

Quagliarella also spoke about current Azzurri Coach Antonio Conte. The pair worked together at Juventus, but rumours of a rift emerged after Quagliarella was not included in the Bianconeri’s Europa League squad.

“Everyone asks if we had a fight, but I never had a problem with him.

“Of course, I couldn’t be happy when I wasn’t playing, and I was excluded from the UEFA list which I thought I didn’t deserve. So I left to return to being an important player.”
