“I will never forget Sampdoria and recognise it was thanks to that club I first reached the Nazionale,” the striker told Sky Sport Italia.

“I scored some crazy goals in this stadium. It was a fantastic time. A few years down the line, I have to say playing at Marassi is still a wonderful sensation for me. Time has passed, but my rapport with the fans remains the same.”

The 31-year-old scored 13 Serie A goals in 35 appearances for the Blucerchiati in 2006-07.

“Would we be happy with a draw? That’s simply not even a consideration for us. We are going there to win in a fiery atmosphere with Mihajlovic on the bench who knows how to stir up his squad.

“I was very enthusiastic to be recalled for the Nazionale last week. Conte knows me and I never had problems with him.”

Quagliarella will need a new strike partner today, as Paulo Vitor Barreto is ruled out by a thigh problem.

Nenad Krsticic is also sidelined with Vasco Regini suspended, but Amauri can make his Toro debut.

Torino squad for Sampdoria: Castellazzi, Gillet, Padelli; Bovo, Darmian, Glik, Jansson, Maksimovic, Molinaro, Moretti, Peres, Silva; Benassi, El Kaddouri, Gazzi, Nocerino, Sanchez Mino, Vives; Amauri, Larrondo, Martinez, Quagliarella
