“I hope to take Catania back to the top flight with the aid of my goals, but I’m not bothered whether I score 10 or just five,” the former Torino and Zenit man told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Catania will take on Perugia this weekend keen for victory after only picking up one point from the six available so far.

“Nobody expected our defeat at Pro Vercelli and we are disappointed with the start we have made,” he explained.

“I don’t know if Perugia will begin as favourites against us, to be honest, I don’t really believe in predictions.

“All I know is that Serie B will be a long campaign.”
