Tom Ince has hinted that prioritising his England career saw him opt against a move to Inter – a decision that he has no regrets about.

The 22-year-old and his father Paul Ince flew out to Milan at the start of the summer and held talks with the Nerazzurri over a potential switch, before he signed with Hull City.

Considering the decision to turn down the move to Serie A, the attacking midfielder had hinted that aiming for a senior call-up to England was at the forefront of his mind.

“When I stood there in the San Siro, I couldn’t believe where I was,” Ince has reflected to the Daily Mail.

“It obviously brought back all the memories of when my old man played there but there was something about it when I spoke to the people at Inter that meant it wasn’t right just yet.

“This is now a big 18 months or so for me now to show I can play at this level and be the player people expect me to be.

“I’ve had two great years at Under-21 level and my ambition now is to try to push for the senior team. Now I’m trying to settle down and make the place a home.

“Playing for a club in the Premier League, and the exposure that comes with that, will hopefully provide me with the pathway to do it.

“You can see at the minute Roy Hodgson is giving a lot of young players from the Under-21s and Premier League clubs a chance. I hope I can get that opportunity.”
